    David Shroyer was born on June 2, 1955 in Middletown Ohio. He attended the Ohio State University and graduated in 1977. He attended Capital University Law School and graduated cum laude in 1980. He grew up in Troy Ohio and graduated from Troy High School in 1973. ''Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor'' He was an Assistant Franklin Prosecutor from 1980 until April 1982. In 1981 he was assigned to assist Senior Assistant Prosecutor Tom Beal to investigate and prosecute Dr. Donald Plotnick. Dr Plotnick, a podiatrist, with a past record of gun charges was indicted on arson charges relating to lighting a drug dealer on fire in the attempt to collect a drug debt. The prosecution resulted in a guilty verdict in spite of the victim developing sudden amnesia at trial. In 1982 David was hired as an Assistant United States Attorney assigned to the Southern District of Ohio. ''Assistant United States Attorney'' He served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 1982 to 1989. He prosecuted federal crimes involving drug conspiracies, organized crime, counterfeiting activity, white collar crime and political corruption. He prosecuted major drug conspiracy cases under the RICO statute that resulted in substantial prison sentences and forfeitures of property and money to the government. His political corruption prosecutions included: the city manager of Upper Arlington Ohio and associated contractors, the city law director and fire chief of Steubenville Ohio, and police narcotic detectives in Dayton Ohio. His organized crime prosecutions included a bombing over a gambling territorial dispute. As an AUSA he tried over 50 criminal prosecutions to verdict. During his tenor as an the Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Ohio he often taught at the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute in Washington DC instructing other AUSA's on trial advocacy techniques. He also taught FBI agents on how to survive cross examination at the FBI's Quantico, Virginia training facility. He received the Attorney of the Year Award in the Southern District of Ohio in 1988. Trial Attorney with Colley Shroyer Abraham David joined Michael F Colley as a trial lawyer in 1989. Michael F Colley is the Past President of the American Trial Lawyers of America and ABOTA. Mr Colley also served as Chairman of the State Republican Party and long time Franklin County Chairman. The firm was renamed Colley Shroyer Abraham in 1998. As a trial lawyer David Shroyer has tried over 75 civil jury trials to verdict. He primarily limits his practice to medical negligence prosecutions. He has argued three cases before the Ohio Supreme Court involving issue of immunity and trial procedures. Adjunct Professor David Shroyer has served as an adjunct professor of law teaching trial advocacy at Capital University Law School since 1986. He has taught nearly 1000 students how to try lawsuits. His students have gone to become trial lawyers and state court judges and many have been involved important litigation in Ohio and across the United States. David regularly lectures on the subject of trial advocacy. In December 2009 he presented a seven hour legal education seminar on "Cross Examination". In 2012 he presented a four hour presentation on the "Principles of Cross Examination" to 100 lawyers at the Franklin County Courthouse. In 2013 he lectured at the Ohio State Bar Association to attorneys on the "Anatomy of a Medical Malpractice Case" From 1989 to present he has routinely demonstrated trial advocacy skill in the "Master in Trial" CLE sponsored by the American Board of Trial Advocates. Author He is the author of "Mastering the Principles of Trial Advocacy". This is a 360 page book dealing with all aspects of trial advocacy. Personal Life He is married to Judge Susan Brown, a Court of Appeals Judge in the 10th District of Ohio. They enjoy traveling the world including recent trips to Myanmar, China, Cambodia, India, Dubai and Egypt. In 2001 he and his wife traveled to China on a Capital University Judicial delegation to meet with and teach principles of American law to Chinese judicial officers in Shanghai and Beijing. In 2015, they traveled to the Hague to attend a CLE conference on the inner workings of the United Nation's War Crimes Tribunal. They have one son, Tyler, who is an attorney at the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office.
