He received his BA in Biology from Denison University in 1994 and his DVM from the Ohio State University in 1989. After initially working in mixed animal practice, Dr. Beckett decided to focus on small animal medicine and surgery. From 1998 to 2003, he worked at a 24-hour emergency and critical care facility, the I-20 Animal Hospital in Arlington, Texas. For two of those years, he served as the lead trauma surgeon and received surgical referrals from surrounding practitioners. He has completed ASIF courses in fracture repair and attends ACVS meetings to keep up with current surgical techniques. In 1990, Dr. Beckett founded the first Columbus area Animal Care Center with his father, C.R. Beckett, DVM. That first hospital expanded to two locations, and in 2005, they became VCA Mill Run and VCA Sawmill Animal Hospitals. Dr. Beckett currently serves as Medical Director of both hospitals, overseeing nine veterinarians and over 80 support staff. His goal is to bring to the practices the level of medicine and surgery usually found only in referral or emergency hospitals. Dr. Beckett is an active member of many local organizations. He is the past president of the Capital Area Humane Society in Columbus, Ohio, and he works with over 20 rescue organizations throughout the state. He currently serves on leadership boards for the Ohio State Veterinary Medical Association, the Columbus Academy of Veterinary Medicine, the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center, the Ohio State University Alumni Council, and the Columbus State Community College Veterinary Technology program. In his free time, Dr. Beckett enjoys spending time with his wife, Mary, their daughter, Peyton Maxine, and his sons Travis and Ben. He is an avid horseman with a special interest in breeding and raising Thoroughbreds. The Becketts share their home with Penny, a Jack Russell Terrier; Vivian, a St. Bernard; and Maxine's gecko.
