The journey for Modern Southern Table began in the food court of the Colony Square Mall in Zanesville, Ohio, after Daisy Lewis competed in and won the Food Network’s “Food Court Wars” in March 2014. When her lease in the mall ended, Lewis refocused her efforts on relocating, hoping to open a restaurant in the Columbus area. No stranger to the highs and lows that come with working in the restaurant industry, Lewis cites the wealth of knowledge she’s learned from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) as a turning point in her entrepreneurial career. Other highlights include winning local accolades such as the Big Pitch and Best Fried Chicken awards and national recognitions such as winning the “Food Court Wars.”

The term Rudos comes from Mexican wrestling or lucha libre, where the Rudos, the antiheroes, fight the tecnicos. Relatives of the Rudos Team trained and became wrestlers in Mexico City around the 1970’s, they were Rudos. Ever since then, lucha libre has been one of our traditions, great food being the other. The team at Tacos Rudos has worked at some of the best kitchens in Columbus, and when the opportunity to fight for a spot at Budd Dairy Food Hall was announced, we were confident in our experience. Marlow’s Cheesesteaks is a fast casual concept created by husband-and-wife duo Jomar & Shanika Sheppard. To achieve their goal of bringing authentic Philly style cheesesteaks to Columbus, Ohio, they have their bread and meat shipped in from their hometown of Philadelphia, daily. The menu highlights traditional Philadelphia favorites along with chicken, salmon, and veggie options, including a unique cut of fries only found at Marlow’s. Troy Wheat, owner of The Jerk Spot, has 20 years of experience in the culinary industry. Raised in Columbus, he has 12 years of work experience at various Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) concepts. He credits most of his training came from working for CMR, in addition to being self-taught. He also earned a few awards such as the Best of Springfield Caterer award and the Wooden Spoon award from Second Harvest Food Bank. Wheat is excited to bring his authentic & infused Jamaican Cuisine to Budd Dairy Food Hall at their Hatch stall.
